Technics SB-M500

Commentary

A toll-boy type speaker system that uses the DDD (Dual Dynamic Drive) system.

The DDD method is used for the low band.
This system drives in phase with two pairs of Kelton-type woofers with passive radiators facing backward, greatly reducing cabinet vibration in the low frequency range and improving low frequency reproduction and sound image localization.
The SB-M500 features a 14 cm cone drive unit and an 18 cm square passive radiator at the bottom of the enclosure for low-frequency playback, equivalent to a 25 cm woofer.

14 cm cone type mid-range is mounted in the mid-range.
The diaphragm uses a composite mica cone mixed with mica and pulp.

A 2.5 cm dome type tweeter is installed in the high range.
The diaphragm is made of pure mica, which has a large specific elastic modulus and high internal loss, and achieves excellent high-frequency reproduction.

The structure of the enclosure is such that the baffle and DDD structure incorporating the medium and high range units are skillfully arranged in the tall boy cabinet to reduce the mutual interference due to the vibration of each unit. In addition, 22 mm thick MDF with less noise is adopted for the body plate, which is combined with the effect of DDD to realize the enclosure with high rigidity and low resonance.
In addition, the mid-range baffle reduces the disturbance of characteristics by minimizing the area and by the flocking finish.

It uses a convex pin type net catch to reduce incidental sounds caused by cavity resonance and reflection.

It uses a gold plated speaker terminal for bi-wiring that can connect extremely thick cords and 4 mm plugs.
