Commentary
Auto-reverse deck for long recording / playback.
The RS-M68 uses a vertical hold auto-reverse mechanism that allows three types of tape travel : one way recording and playback, two way recording and playback, and continuous playback. The RS-M68 uses a simple reverse mechanism that exclusively uses the flywheel, capstan, and pinch roller for forward and reverse rotation to improve reliability. In addition, mechanical errors are reduced by reversing only the capstan without changing the direction of motor rotation.
The RS-M68 uses a 4 chSX SENDUST head developed in Shinkai for the RS-M68. Unlike the system in which the head is physically inverted, only the core used is electrically switched while the head is fixed, making stable recording and playback possible.
