LS-880A
Commentary

This speaker system incorporates Class A suspension and other technologies to accommodate the wide dynamic range of digital sources.

The Class A suspension is a technology unique to Kenwood, and it is used for Woofer in LS 880 a.
The two suspensions cancel each other's non-linear distortion and realize linear motion of the vibration plate.

A 27 cm cone type woofer with HR carbon is used for the low range.
The vibration plate is a pulp layer reinforced with HR carbon and rib with loss, and has a 3-layer structure with a hard resin layer sandwiched between them, suppressing the squeal characteristic of the material.
The drive system employs a voice coil composed of a magnet with a total magnetic flux of 92000 maxwell and a highly rigid aluminum bobbin.

A 7.5 cm semi-dome type skoker made of ion-plated titanium is used for the middle area.
We have developed a lightweight and high-rigidity vibration plate using ion-plated titanium. The semi-boom coker combines features of a dome type with excellent directivity and a cone type with high efficiency.
The magnetic circuit uses a 46000 maxwell magnet with a total magnetic flux and a voice coil made of heat-curable meltable aluminum wire to achieve lighter weight and higher efficiency.

A 2.5 cm ion-plated dome type tweeter is used for the high frequency band.
Titanium nitride is ionized and accelerated in a plasma state to increase the kinetic energy of molecules for vapor deposition. As a result, sufficient vapor deposition strength is maintained, and the vibrating plate is finished with hardness more than six times that of highly rigid titanium.
Furthermore, aluminum wire is used for the voice coil to reduce weight, and strontium ferrite magnet is used for the magnetic circuit to obtain high magnetic flux density.

The network uses separate printed circuit boards for the woofer, squaker, and tweeter to reduce crosstalk caused by magnetic flux leakage and crosstalk caused by the ground line.
We also use oxygen-free copper for wire materials and coil windings.

Acoustic level control is used to flatten the sound energy balance in the listening area.
In the case of Enclosed, it is adjusted according to the characteristics when it is placed directly on the floor, and in the case of Open, it is adjusted according to the characteristics in a room partitioned by shoji or curtain.
