SONY SS-R10

Commentary

This is an R series floor-type speaker system with a full condenser.

The SS-R10 is a 3-way design and uses a condenser unit for all bands.
In addition to Sony's speaker technology, these capacitor-type units incorporate thin-film technology cultivated in capacitor-type microphones and high-voltage insulation technology used in televisions.

From the surface of the set, it looks like a 6-unit configuration with two units for the top and bottom of the woofer, mid-range, and tweeter respectively. However, it actually has an 8-unit configuration. The woofer is a 4-unit double-structure with two units for both top and bottom. This increases the driving capability of the woofer and realizes a voluminous low-frequency range that was difficult to achieve with a condenser type.

Four units of 270x570mm condenser woofer in the low range, two units of 70x500mm condenser midrange in the middle range, and two units of 25x500mm condenser tweeters in the high range.
These units use a 6 μ m (6/1,000 mm) diaphragm, which weighs only about 1/10 of that of a household wrap. As a result, the diaphragm is extremely light compared to the effective mass of the front and rear air layers during speaker operation. Moreover, it has outstanding sound resolution because the entire surface is driven.

The step-up transformer required for the capacitor type is large with sufficient capacity and high sound quality, and is sealed with epoxy resin together with a bias circuit to improve electrical reliability and vibration resistance.
In addition, the network section is not only composed of high-quality sound components, but is also housed in a separate box from the main body to prevent vibration and prevent electromagnetic interference.
