SS-G7a
Commentary

This speaker system was developed by redesigning the SS-G7, which has been used by more than 10,000 people as a large-floor-type speaker, after four years of aging.

A 38 cm cone type woofer is installed in the low range.
CARBOCON is used for the diaphragm. The shape of the cone paper is based on the results of listening and NASTRAN. Concentric rib-corrugation is applied to a straight cone with a half vertical angle of 60 °. This ensures accurate piston motion up to the upper limit of the operating bandwidth.
The magnetic circuit uses a T-shaped pole piece and a current suppressor ring to improve magnetic linearity and reduce distortion. In addition, a large-diameter 100 mm edge-wise voice coil with enhanced strength and efficiency is used.
Urethane edge is used for shearing.

Mid-range with 10 cm balanced drive mid-range
In addition to the adoption of edge-wise voice coil, the edge dump material and impregnation agent were also examined and improved.

Equipped with 3.5 cm balanced drive type tweeter.
The vibration plate realizes high-speed response by applying ion plating on both sides of the titanium vibration plate and expands the pistic motion band. In addition, the strength and efficiency are improved by adopting the edge-wise voice coil.

The Network Division is designed using the know-how obtained from the latest amplifier technology.
First of all, the oxygen-free copper wire coil is fixed with SBMC to form a vibration-resistant network, and electrolytic capacitors in plastic cases and polyester film capacitors are used.
In addition, mutual interference is eliminated by separating each network board.
Oxygen-free copper wires are used for internal wiring to prevent deterioration of sound quality.

The enclosure uses a bass reflex system.
The baffle board is made of double-structured 30 mm thick hard particleboards and the other side is made of 20 mm thick high-density particleboards, making the enclosure strong enough to match the size of the unit. In addition, Sony's original groove processing is applied to the baffle plate and back plate, and reinforcement and sound absorption processing are applied to disperse and reduce unwanted noise.
All units of the woofer, mid-range and tweeter are positioned according to the inverse square law of the sound source, so that the position of the sound source as seen by the listener is aligned in both front and rear.
The front baffle is an AG board (equatorial grooved board) with innumerable vertical and horizontal grooves. This is a kind of diffuse effect that scatters reflected waves of middle and high sound with relatively short wavelength by the vertical and horizontal grooves. It suppresses the generation of harsh peak feeling and improves directional characteristics.
A unit board is used to mount the mid-range and tweeter, ensuring the strength of the baffle plate while bringing the units closer together.
