Commentary

This is a half-size cassette deck specialized for playing back tape music.

Equipped with a synchronized remote control terminal for synchronized play.
Synchronized play is possible by using the Synchronized Remote Control Unit RM-65 (sold separately). This function is compatible with decks that can use the Sony Remote Control Unit RM-50/RM-70/RM-80.

Equipped with RMS (random memory music sensor).
With this function, you can program up to 15 songs randomly in the desired order. You can start and play one after another according to the order of stored songs. You can also play the same song repeatedly.
(RMS requires approximately 4 seconds of blank space between songs to operate)

A read-only S & F head is used for the head.
This head combines the maximum magnetic flux density of Sendust alloy and the high frequency characteristics of ferrite. In TC-PB5, characteristic margin can be obtained by focusing on a single function for exclusive use for reproduction.

The direct coupling between the playhead and the amplifier prevents the coupling capacitor from adversely affecting sound.

We have adopted a 2-motor type mechanism in which a capstan drive motor and a reel drive motor are each specialized.
A DC servo motor is used to drive the capstan.
In addition, metal lamination of the die-cast flywheel reduces resonance sharpness, thereby suppressing resonance generation and eliminating adverse effects on sound.

Fine feather touch operation using logic control is adopted.
As a result, the mechanism operates correctly and reliability is improved, and operability is also improved, such as direct change from rapid feed or rewind to regenerating condition.
It is also equipped with an autoplay function. If you press the play button and the rewind button at the same time, playback will start immediately after rewinding.

Equipped with an auto tape selector.
When the tape is loaded, the EQ position corresponding to the tape is automatically set. This mechanism identifies the type of tape being used by detecting the extra hole of the cassette half.

Equipped with a Dolby NRB type noise reduction system.
In the TC-PB5, the circuit is condensed into one IC, and the reliability is improved by reducing the number of switches, and the sound quality when using Dolby is also improved.

Equipped with microphone mixing mechanism and mixing volume.

Equipped with headphone / lineout volume.

It has the same dimensions as the separately sold active speaker SA-55, and can be used in combination.
The SA-55 has line inputs and Rec outputs so that it can be connected to a cassette deck to monitor the music source while editing a tape.
