Commentary

A stereo cassette deck with Dolby NR / C type.

As a noise reduction system, it is equipped with Dolby NR / C type which realizes noise reduction of approximately 20 dB, equivalent to 3 times of the conventional B type.
In the C type, NR is not applied to low-frequency signals that are difficult to sense noise, and the occurrence of bleeding called the noise breathing phenomenon is suppressed. In addition, the sliding band method used in the B type is reinforced and adopted, so that the frequency that operates according to the signal level is changed and the NR amount is suppressed.
In addition, by installing two circuits, an anti-frequency circuit and a spectral skewing circuit, the high-frequency characteristics of the tape are improved and the distortion due to supersaturation is reduced. The anti-frequency circuit operates when a high-frequency signal is large enough to exceed the saturation level and compresses the signal within a range of up to 3 dB to prevent level saturation. In addition, the spectral skewing circuit suppresses the ultra-high-frequency signal, which has little effect on the saturation sense, at the input stage to prevent system malfunction. saturation

The TC-FX20 is also equipped with Dolby NR / B type, and can play back tapes recorded with B type.

A 2-motor system has been adopted in which a DC servo motor for driving the capstan and a DC motor for driving the reel are specialized for each of them to improve reliability and rotational characteristics.

The SD (Super High Density) head, which makes full use of Sony's magnetic technology, is used for the recording / reproducing head.
A magne-Focus 4-Gap erasing head is used for the erasing head.

Equipped with a 4-stage tape selector for simultaneous switching of bias and equalizer.

Direct coupling between the playback amplifier and the head prevents deterioration of sound quality caused by the condenser.
The amplifier system consists of DC amplifier and ± 2 power supply system.
