Commentary
An all-silicon transistor stereo pre-main amplifier released as a sister unit of the TA-1120.
Silicon transistors, which are resistant to temperature and have good high-frequency characteristics, are used for all products, and Sony has guaranteed these transistors permanently.
The circuit configuration uses a complete OTL amplifier that does not use any input transformer or output transformer.
This circuit uses a twin T-filter with a valley at approximately 5 Hz to cut the very low frequency range in order to prevent speaker overswing due to very low frequency noise.
In order to prevent unpleasant noise from being generated when the power is turned on and off due to the large capacitor used for coupling with the speaker, a muting circuit is installed that short-circuits the speaker terminals to prevent sound from being generated.
The equalizer uses an NF-type equalizer with a 3-stage direct-coupled amplifier of low-noise silicon transistor 2SC401.
The third stage is an emitter follower, and there is sufficient gain even if the impedance of the NF loop drops in the high-frequency range. Therefore, the high-frequency range has excellent linearity and low distortion characteristics.
With a quick access selector, you can choose between Tuner and Phono with one touch, or you can preset one of the other inputs and use the lever to select these three.
This allows you to skip inputs that you don't use often, and prevents unpleasant noise.
It uses a continuously variable tone control that can control the high and low frequencies separately on the left and right.
In addition, it is equipped with a tone cancel switch which can make the knob flat regardless of the position.
A volume adjustment method combining NF type and resistance attenuation type is adopted.
This method improves the S/N ratio when the volume is reduced.
Equipped with a protection circuit using SCR.
