Commentary

This is a 4-way coaxial speaker system that Pioneer's speaker development staff built on the accumulated ideas that have been accumulated up to now and completed without being bound by existing concepts in structure.

Since the vibrating surface of the speaker and the front face of the baffle are on the same plane, the frequency characteristic of the flat speaker is not disturbed by the cavity effect, and sound quality can be obtained easily. Also, the sound source position of each speaker unit matches, which is a great advantage.
In addition, by using coaxial planar speakers, the arrival time of sound waves from low pitch to high pitch is the same at the listening point, and a clear sound image with clear contours can be obtained. At the same time, since the center points of the wave front from low pitch to high pitch coincide with each other, the arrival directions of sound waves completely coincide with each other, unlike the conventional method of arranging each unit separately.
As a result of these synergistic effects, coaxial planar speakers provide realistic sound images.

The S-F1custom uses a honeycomb structure diaphragm that uses carbon graphite, which is the diaphragm material, as the surface material. This carbon graphite honeycomb diaphragm is used for low and middle sound speakers to expand the piston band and obtain smooth frequency response up to the high-range reproduction limit and excellent characteristics.
The surface of the diaphragm for high and ultra high frequencies is made of beryllium foil, which is used in S-955 etc., and the honeycomb structure realizes faithful piston vibration up to beyond the audible band of 20 kHz or more.

In order to take advantage of the features of the flat diaphragm and further expand the piston motion band, we have adopted a nodal drive system in which a voice coil is directly connected to the nodal position of the lowest order vibration mode. This eliminates the low order split vibration and expands the piston motion band by approximately twice.
In the case of Woofer, the drive type voice coil is as large as 32 cm square.

A choke coil using a silicon-steel core is used for the network section, and a new LI cord (low inductance cord) using oxygen-free copper is used for internal wiring.

The enclosure has a bass-reflex structure.
