Commentary

A woofer system using an 80 cm diameter woofer unit.

Diatone developed a large woofer when it received an order for stage speakers for NHK Hall around 1978.
Since the horn type cannot be used due to space limitations, a woofer with a maximum output sound pressure of 130 dB and a low-pass limit frequency of 30 Hz was required. This was the reason for the development.
The system using an 80 cm cone woofer developed at that time was placed in the NHK Hall in 1979.

The D-80 has an 80 cm cone shaped woofer in the unit.
This unit uses a honeycomb diaphragm for the diaphragm, and realizes weight reduction by using aluminum alloy for the honeycomb core and CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) for the skin material.
In addition, the Alnico magnet is used for the magnetic circuit, and a highly heat-resistant bobbin is used for the voice coil to achieve high input resistance.

There were two variations of the enclosure, a closed type and a bass reflex type.
The inside is made of steel balk with wood pasted on.

It seems that this speaker has also been delivered to laboratories of kobe university and Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry which study noise and vibration.
