Commentary

Bookshelf type speaker system with 2-way / 3-way switching system.

The DS 181 can be switched between 2-way and 3-way by the illumination ON-OFF switch on the front baffle plate.
When set to ON, the Super Tweeter operates to enable playback up to 30 kHz. When set to OFF, the Super Tweeter operates to enable 2-way playback, resulting in soft sound quality.

A 20 cm cone type woofer is installed in the low range.
This unit has adopted a newly developed special rubber edge for the edge part, and has a moderate compliance compared to the conventional one, and by realizing excellent resilience, strain is greatly reduced.

A 5 cm cone type tweeter is installed in the high range.
A sub-frame of orifice structure is installed in the chamber of the tweeter to reduce reverberation in the chamber and improve transient characteristics.

A 1.6 cm dome type super tweeter using a high-purity aluminum diaphragm is mounted in the super high frequency range.

A oxygen-free copper coil is used in the network section to reduce distortion by reducing the DC resistance of the coil itself.

The unit layout of the enclosure is symmetrical to improve the directivity of the tweeter, and the internal system is a full-scale bass reflex design using elbow (folded) pipes.
The enclosure is made of a material with a thickness of 15 mm, and the box ringing phenomenon is prevented by adopting a distributed resonance type enclosure in which reinforcing bars are distributed unevenly.

There were two variations in appearance.
The DS 181 s features a silver finish enclosure and an expanded metal grill net grill, while the DS 181 w features a wood finish and a protective net on the woofer unit.
