Commentary
A direct drive player with a 3-layer structure cabinet.
Returning to the foundations of oscillation theory, where materials of different masses can be used in the sandwich structure to convert vibrational energy into thermal energy, we focused on high-density glass and pure aluminum to drive vibration transmission out of the cabinet. It has a three layer structure consisting of 8 mm thick aluminum plates and special glass (15 mm thick and 7.5 kg weight), which is designed to increase the accuracy of the plane, on top and bottom, so that no unnecessary howling or reverberation is generated.
For the turntable seat, we do not use materials with high internal loss such as rubber to absorb vibration, but we use 5 mm thick hard glass with excess hardness and weight for non-core copper based on the concept of structure that does not absorb vibration itself.
In order to ensure that uniform weights are always applied to discs with sleds, and to achieve the full performance of all types of cartridges, we have adopted a mass variable dynamic balance tone arm that can change the effective mass of the arm according to compliance.
For the aluminum material of the straight type with reduced effective mass, super aluminum alloy with small mass and high strength is used, and the connector part with the head shell is a semi-integrated type with insert-type surface contact that does not generate resonance due to rattling.
The Phono Motor drives a heavy duty turntable weighing 3.4 kg and is equipped with a newly developed high-torque DD motor specially ordered by Marantz. With a strong magnetic circuit, the starting torque can reach 1.6 kg.
It reaches normal rotation in 1/2 rotation after starting. Furthermore, the rotation system realizes high precision and accurate rotation by the moment of inertia of this heavy duty turntable for dynamic load fluctuation, and by the whole circumference detection method and quartz lock mechanism for static load fluctuation such as drift.
In order to ensure a trace free from unwanted vibration, the arm base is made of aluminum muck material carved out of a large block. By rotating this part, the tone arm of effective length from 190 mm to 230 mm can be mounted universally.
Moreover, it is possible to upgrade to a double arm by using the sub-arm space provided in the left back.
Air-suspension type insulator with sufficient absorber capacity is adopted.
The height of this insulator can be adjusted freely, and the horizontal reference of the turntable can be set accurately.
