Commentary
A tube type monaural power amplifier developed as an improved version based on the MB8A developed in the monaural era.
KT-88 made by GE is used for the output tube. With a maximum output of 85W and relatively light usage, excellent characteristics with allowance are obtained.
The output circuit uses a cathode NF method.
The output transformer of the MB88 is an exclusive type of OY36 type plus a coil for cathode NF. The cathode NF is applied to the KT-88. The cathode NF method is a multiple NF method in which the internal resistance of the output tube itself is lowered in advance by applying local NFB to the output tube, and NFB is applied to all stages from above.
This method has almost the same effect as using a 3-pole tube with low internal resistance and low distortion. Moreover, the output can be taken out like a multi-pole tube. This circuit is also used in the Macintosh MC 275.
By adopting a unique crossover NFB method, stability is enhanced.
Equipped with an input level set function.
The body is designed with chrome pipe, and the upper part of the pipe functions as a handle and the lower part functions as a leg part.
The panel logo design was different between the first half and the second half.
