Commentary

A preamplifier that eliminates complex circuits and faithfully amplifies the input source and feeds it to a power amplifier.

The PAM-2 has a dual-mono configuration in which two monaural preamplifiers, all of which are completely independent, including not only the circuit but also the level control and input selector, are contained in one chassis.
For this reason, the panel is equipped with two monaural level controllers, two input selectors and two tape monitor switches. In addition, the left and right power supply sections are also separated to prevent slight interference between the left and right channels and deterioration of sound quality due to interference at the power supply section.

The circuit design is simple : the phono inputs pass through the equalizer amplifier and the flat amplifier, and the high-level inputs pass through the flat amplifier only.
The input source is also limited to the minimum necessary.

Both the equalizer amplifier and the flat amplifier have a simple design consisting of a minimum number of devices, rather than a complex circuit using a lot of transistors and ICs.
However, the elements used are strictly selected, not only the level control and switches, but also the best ones including the small internal parts.

To prevent the output signal from deteriorating before it is sent to the power amplifier, the output impedance of the pre-out and tape-out is kept as low as 10 Ω.
This low-impedance output reduces signal degradation.
