HARBETH HLCompact
¥ 118,000 (1 unit, released in 1987)
Commentary
This is the first speaker system that Alan Shaw developed after taking over the Havez Company from Dudley Harwood.
A 20 cm cone type woofer is installed in the low range.
New material TPX is used for the cone. This material, which was also used for HL TypeIV, was a lightweight thermoplastic material with excellent self-damping, but it had the drawback of being difficult to process. At Harvey, this was overcome by using it for the diaphragm.
A long protruding acoustic lens is attached to the center of the unit.
A 2.5 cm hard ohm type tweeter is installed in the high range.
Aluminum diaphragm is used for the diaphragm.
The enclosure uses a bass reflex system.
A bass reflex port was designed and adopted using computer analysis.
The exterior is finished with natural teak material.
The speaker jacks are bi-wired.
In the process of assembling the HL Compact, such as the right and left units, woofer and tweeter, the characteristics of each unit were checked and shipped as a pair with the best matching unit.
There was a special stand sold separately.
