ESS LS5

Commentary
A bookshelf speaker system from the Tempest series.
The unit and network are the same type as the LS4, with a small Hail driver for the high band, a 25 cm cone woofer and a 25 cm passive radiator for the low band.
The small Hail driver consists of Teflon accordion pleats placed in a strong magnetic field and elements (conductive bands) embedded in the sides of each of the pleats.
When a signal is applied to this element, an electric current flows and the movement of the folds compresses air and emits sound into space.
Because the voice coil radiates sound directly into space by this operation, excellent damping characteristics and low distortion factor are achieved.
A 25 cm cone type woofer is used for the low range, and a 25 cm passive radiator is installed on the back of the woofer to improve the low range reproduction.
An 18dB/oct network is used for the Woofer crossover, and the mid and high sound can be continuously changed according to the room above the crossover point of 2.4 kHz.
