DM17
Commentary

This mini monitor speaker inherits the technical results obtained at 801F.

In the DM17, the tweeter is mounted on the top panel of the enclosure to prevent the diffraction phenomenon that disturbs the sound image orientation and greatly improve dispersion. In addition, the tweeter and woofer are placed in phase with each other, and delay compensation is carried out by the crossover network in response, so that the sound wave reaches the listener as a uniform spherical wave.

A 15 cm cone type woofer is installed in the low range.
The cone is made of ferritic material that has been treated with the same dumping treatment as the woofer. The ferritic material is made of highly crystalline, highly rigid polymer and provides excellent sound pressure levels even in the low frequency band.
The front of the die-cast frame of the woofer uses a satin chrome hairline finish.

A 2.6 cm dome-shaped tweeter is installed in the high range.
The diaphragm is woven with polyester fiber and has excellent characteristics even outside the section length range. In addition, the volume is minimized by the use of strong magnet.

The crossover network was designed using the numerical optimization design technique established in the development stage of 801F.
In this technique, ideal circuit constants are determined by computer simulation, and precision is improved by using carefully selected parts.

An Audio Powered Overload Circuit (APOC) system with an electronic circuit configuration unique to B & W is incorporated as a protection circuit.
The APOC system reads the voltage applied to the voice coil of each unit, and when the limit is exceeded, the relay operates to cut the input signal, thereby preventing thermal damage due to overload.
The Akai LED next to the B & W logo lights up while the APOC system is operating and automatically recovers after an overload condition has passed.

The enclosure is hermetically sealed.
The board is designed with a 2-layer structure consisting of 12 mm thick high density particle board and 6 mm Biimen pad, and a 19 mm thick front baffle assembly.
In addition, the woofer unit is isolated from the enclosure by a rubber gasket to reduce the propagation of vibration and reduce the coloration caused by the resonance of the enclosure.

There are 2 color variations, black and walnut.

Driver units with characteristic differences within ± 0.5 dB are selected by computer measurement and assembled as one pair.
In addition, measurement data was attached to each unit.

There was a speaker stand as an option sold separately.
The DM17 is designed to provide accurate performance when it is mounted on a dedicated stand and listened to in a listening area at 10 ° vertically to the tweeter.
