Commentary
Altec's representative speaker system.
The A5 is one of Altech's speaker systems for theaters named Voice of the Theater.
The Voice of the Theater released variations from A1 to A6 in 1945, followed by A7 in 1954 and then A8, A9, and A10, for a total of 10 types.
In 1953, the Voice of the Theatre series received world standard approval from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In Japan, it is later than the A7, and while the A7 is published from the 60 s catalog, the A5 was published only after 1975.
According to Stereo Sound magazine, the A5 high band horn was originally a multi-seller horn. However, it seems that Elektri, which was an agent, changed it to 311-90 in consideration of using it for home use. I don't know why, but in Japan, A5 has been sold only as A5system for a long time, and even if the unit used was changed, the product name remained the same (in overseas, there were model numbers such as A5, A5A, and A5-X).
- A5 (around the first half of 1975)
According to the catalog in Japan which the manager has, it is A5 of the earliest period.
A 38 cm cone woofer 515B is used for the low range, and a driver 291 16 a and horn 311 90 are used for the high range.
The network uses N500F, and the enclosure uses 825B.
- A5 (from late 1975)
It is A5 which is listed in the single item catalog of A5 and A7.
The photos look the same as the 1975 one, but the units and enclosures are different, and the configuration was changed in the second half of 1975 Central Catalog.)
A 38 cm cone woofer 515B is used for the low range, and a driver 288 16 g and a horn 311 90 are used for the high range.
The network is N500F in the second half 1975 catalog and the enclosure is 828B.
* The network was changed to N500F-A in the single item catalog in 1976.
- A5 (1980 - 1981)
It is A5 which appeared in the domestic catalog from 1980 to 1981.
The picture is the same, but there was a configuration change in the two catalogs, the enclosure was 828C in the 1980 catalog and 828E in the 1981 catalog.
A 38 cm cone woofer 515C is used for the low range, and a driver 288 16 h and a horn 311 90 are used for the high range.
- A5B/MRII594A A5C/MRII594A
A speaker system combining A5 with manta ray Rayhorn MRII594A.
The difference between A5B and A5C is high frequency and network. A5B uses driver units 288-8L and network N1285-8B, while A5C uses driver units 299-8A and N500-8H.
The A5B N1285-8B is a crossover switching type, and the A5C 299-8A uses a pass-culite diaphragm.
A 38 cm cone woofer 515-8G is used for the low range and 828H is installed in the enclosure.
The enclosure operates as a bass reflex at 120 Hz or less and as a horn at 120 Hz or more. 19 mm thick particleboard is used for the plate material. The exterior features a Theater Gray sputter finish.
In addition to mounting the horn and fixing it on the top surface, it can also be mounted inside the enclosure.
A red / black pentagonal binding post is used for the terminal, and the vibration system moves to the front when a positive signal is supplied to the red terminal.
