GXC-730D
Commentary

This is the first stereo cassette deck equipped with a reverse recording and reproducing mechanism.

The GXC-730D uses the same head for both directions, shifting the head without reversing the cassette tape, and changing tracks simultaneously. This solves problems such as head characteristics and time loss.
The head block is controlled by a linear motion mechanism that eliminates errors in forward, backward, left, and right movements. In addition, the vertical angle (azimuth) of the head with respect to the tape is fixed by each adjustment screw, so that the characteristics of reciprocation are uniform.
Head wear, especially characteristic degradation due to unbalanced wear, is dealt with by using GX head which has excellent abrasion resistance.

A bi-counter capstan drive system is available for changing the direction of the tape.
This system consists of two pairs of flywheels, which always rotate in the opposite direction, and pinch rollers. Therefore, even when playing in one direction, simply pressing the play lever in the opposite direction immediately delivers the tape at a constant speed.
In addition, components such as the motor, flat belt, and flywheels are also designed to ensure uniform travel characteristics in both directions.

Since the recording lever and the play lever can be locked even when the power is off, you can record messages or play an alarm by using them together with a timer.

By switching the reverse selector, you can switch between three modes : "one way recording / rerecording", "one round recording / rerecording from the outward path or one way recording / rerecording from the return path", and "continuous playback from A-plane → B-plane → A-plane is automatically performed after one round recording from the outward path".

Automatic play from the tape end is possible by operating the rewind / fast-forward lever and the forward / homeward play lever simultaneously.
In addition, by using a memory mechanism linked to a tape counter, regenerating condition occurs automatically near the counter 0 in both directions.

Equipped with a Dolby NR system that can reduce cassette hissing.

Built-in ADR system (Automatic Distortion Reduction) developed by AKAI.
This circuit automatically adjusts the recording equalizer according to the frequency band and level of the input signal, enabling recording without distortion due to demagnetization in the high range.

Equipped with a VU meter, input signals can be monitored.
For instantaneous input signals (pulse components), a peak level indicator using LED that lights up at + 7 dB is mounted.

With a tape selector, you can take advantage of low-noise, chrome and ferrichrome tapes.
This selector switches the four elements simultaneously : the recording bias, the recording and playback equalizer, and the recording level.

Equipped with an input selector to improve the S/N ratio of line recording.

Equipped with a limiter that automatically prevents distortion caused by excessive input during recording.

Uses a soft eject mechanism using an oil damper.
In addition, it is equipped with a full release auto-stop mechanism that releases the mechanism at the tape end.

Output Volume is used.

A removable cassette lid is used to facilitate head maintenance.
