Pioneer S-3EX

Commentary

An EX series speaker system that inherits TAD technology.

A 14 cm coaxial type unit combining 14 cm cone type mid-range and 3 cm dome type tweeter is installed in the middle and high range.
This unit is a CST (Coherent Source Transducer) driver which is the core technology of the EX series. By aligning the position of the mid-range and tweeter on the time axis, the reproduction of sound image and sound field in high dimension is realized.
A magnesium diaphragm is used for the mid-range model, and a ceramic graphite diaphragm is used for the tweeter. The diaphragm is of the highest class in strength with internal loss.
A neodymium magnet is used for the magnetic circuit, and the miniaturization of the magnetic circuit is realized by precise cutting processing, reducing unnecessary reflection on the back of the unit.

Two 16 cm cone type woofers are installed in the lower range.
A unique cone with a laminated structure of aramid woven fabric and carbon non-woven fabric is used for the diaphragm.
A newly developed LDMC (Linear Drive Magnetic Circuit) magnetic circuit is used for the magnetic circuit, and excellent linearity is realized by equalizing the magnetic flux distribution in the magnetic gap.
In addition, the material and structure details such as high-strength titanium bobbin made by a special manufacturing method and corrugation edge made of foamed polycarbonate urethane are examined.

The enclosure uses a Perfect Time Alignment design to provide precise time control for the sound emitted from each speaker unit until it reaches the listener's ear.
The front baffle has an extra-thick baffle structure with a maximum thickness of 100 mm and ABD & AFAST technology further reduces standing wave generation.
It uses a bass reflex system.
The exterior has a natural wood finish.

3-point support has been adopted to enable a rated grounding and stable sound reproduction.

In addition to the normal design S-1EX, there was a cherry brown finish S-3EX-T.
