DR-2
Commentary

This cassette deck achieves high cost performance by omitting some functions from the DR-1.

Head part uses Nakamichi's unique discrete 3 head system.
The discrete three head system, in which the three recording, playback, and erasing heads are structurally completely independent, enables extremely precise (magnetic and mechanical) azimuth adjustment, and also shuts out magnetic field interference by keeping the recording head and reproducing head far apart.
The recording and reproducing heads use an inline recording head with a crystal-core for sound quality. In particular, the reproducing head has an ultra-narrow gap of 0.8 μ, enabling ultra-high-frequency playback at 21 kHz. The head coil uses top-grade oxygen-free copper (OFC) for low signal transmission loss.

The mechanism uses a closed-loop dual capstan system to obtain optimum tape tension and stable tape travel.
The Nakamichi has added a unique twist to this method. The supply and take-up capstan diameters are slightly changed to create a frequency-distributed system that avoids overlapping flutter cycles and suppresses harmful tape vibrations. In addition, the Nakamichi is equipped with a unique tape pad lifter that controls tape travel with only two capstans, making it a more ideal method. These measures reduce modulation noise and contribute to a longer head life.

The audio circuit uses dual-mono construction to eliminate channel interference, and the DC amplifier configuration eliminates coupling capacitors that cause distortion.
The recording amplifier circuit is a pure A-class, and 12 adjustment circuits are installed in total to maximize the capacity of the tape. The playback amplifier circuit consists of only discrete elements and is integrated with the transport side playhead assembly to eliminate cable routing and reduce transmission loss.

Multi-regulated power supply system is adopted for the power supply section to eliminate power interference between sections.
