Commentary
DC-configuration pre-main amplifier of Low TIM design with slightly lower output without peak indicator from Model 1180.
A specially selected low-noise transistor is used for the equalizer amplifier, and it is a 5 tr configuration first stage differential 3-stage direct-coupled differential circuit consisting of a differential input amplifier, buffer amplifier and A-class amplifier with constant current load.
The high closed-loop gain of 40 dB is the first since the model 7 and can be used directly with a somewhat higher power MC cartridge.
It is equipped with Marantz's original Tritone control which can control up to mid-range.
This linear slide-type control resembles a graphic equalizer, and is useful for program correction and room acoustic processing.
Bass and Treble vary the frequency response within ± 10 dB, and Mid within ± 6 dB.
In addition, it is equipped with Turnover which can change the operating characteristics of Bass and Treble.
It is equipped with a loudness contour that allows the optimum Fletcher Munson curve at each stage of low volume to be set continuously variable.
The low-frequency and high-frequency corrections can be fine-tuned and set independently of the master volume. Moreover, it is possible to cut the clicks in ten steps.
Since the circuit is completely disconnected at scale 0, the frequency characteristic becomes flat.
Pure complimentary service OCL / parallel push-pull circuit provides excellent overall power linearity.
The DC configuration also provides excellent phase characteristics and transmission capability over a wide bandwidth.
It is equipped with an ESP protection circuit to limit excessive input to a safe value and protect the musical quality.
It uses a Bessel filter with excellent roll-off characteristics and realizes a steep roll-off curve of 18dB/oct. at 9 kHz and 15 Hz, reducing phase distortion.
Equipped with a tone defeat that jumps the tone circuit and sets the frequency response to flat.
Equipped with a DC/AC amplifier changeover switch.
Wooden cabinet is sold separately.
