This is the world's first DVD player developed by Toshiba.

The video circuit uses the MPEG2 real-time encoder system developed by Toshiba.
The motion vector search range is wide, and video compression with little degradation in image quality is achieved even for images with strong motion. The MPEG2 system achieves a maximum resolution of 720x480 pixels, approximately four times the resolution of the MPEG1 system used for video CDs, etc., and realizes high-density digital video.
In contrast to MPEG1's 1.15Mbit/s (fixed) data transfer rate, which determines image quality, MPEG1 uses a variable bit rate system up to 9.80Mbit/s. The transfer rate changes according to the degree of compression difficulty, thus maintaining an optimal image quality level while maintaining efficient long-term recording.

The pickup section is equipped with a newly developed 650 nm short wavelength laser pickup that uses a red diode as a light source.
The objective lens has an aperture of 0.6 to improve reading accuracy in fine pits. In addition, the two lens integrated switching system, which uses special lenses for both DVD and CD, ensures excellent tracking performance and DVD/CD compatibility.

It is equipped with an RS-PC (Reed-Solomon product code) error correction circuit that exhibits stronger error correction capability than a CD player, an MPEG2 video decoder system using a high-performance IC chip developed in-house, and a digital circuit that effectively suppresses and reduces noise.

Equipped with color difference output terminal (Y/Cr/Cb).

Equipped with multi-aspect function, you can play it regardless of the type of TV to be connected.
When connected to a 4 : 3 TV, you can enjoy high-quality video with aspect switching, either letterbox conversion, which shrinks the top and bottom, or pan-scan conversion, which cuts a portion of the wide image to 4 : 3 depending on the title.

It is compatible with software recorded in the Dolby Digital (AC-3) 5.1 ch surround system, and 5.1 ch surround playback is possible by connecting to the AC-3 compatible AV amplifier.
You can also enjoy stereo playback by downmixing 5.1 channel audio and outputting it from the 2-channel stereo jack.

Provides high-quality audio support for uncompressed linear PCM.
A 20-bit D/A converter is used in the D/A converter section, and 2-channel stereo sound of 16bit/48kHz sampling equivalent to DAT can be reproduced with an SN ratio of 96 dB.

Wireless remote control is included.
With this remote control, you can set and select various functions recorded in DVD software, and set while watching TV screen by on-screen display.
It also has a TV compatible function that allows you to operate the connected TV.
