AR(Acoustic Research) AR-17
¥ 47,500 (1 unit, released in October 1977)
Commentary
A speaker system with the same unit configuration as the AR-18.
A 20 cm cone type woofer is installed in the low range.
A 3.2 cm ring radiator type tweeter is installed in the high range.
By injecting a magnetic fluid between the pole piece and yoke, the power handling capability is improved. In addition, the magnetic fluid guides the voice coil naturally to the center axis of the pole piece, improving the accuracy of the unit and enabling reproduction with less distortion.
The enclosure uses a traditional acoustic suspension system that improves bass playback by allowing the air inside the fully enclosed enclosure to act as a spring to support the cones.
The AR-17 uses a slightly larger enclosure than the AR-18 for richer bass playback.
