Commentary
An improved FM/AM tuner based on the T-5.
The front end is equipped with a high-precision wide-air-gap 3-row varicon and low-noise J-FET with excellent high-frequency characteristics to improve high sensitivity and various kinds of interference rejection characteristics.
The IF stage employs a ceramic filter with high transmission characteristics equivalent to six elements to achieve both high frequency and audio characteristics.
The MPX circuit that splits FM signals into L/R signals uses Yamaha's proprietary DC-NFB switching circuit based on a high-slew rate DC amplifier.
In the same way as audio amplifiers, distortion and noise are reduced from the very low band to the high band because NFB (negative feedback) is applied to improve the performance.
An optical balance type is used for the tuning meter.
Green LEDs are arranged on the left and right sides of the red LED dial indicator. When the brightness of the green LEDs on the right and left matches, the best separation and minimum distortion are achieved.
Equipped with a signal meter, a disturbance detection filter and AGC amplifier display a wide range of input levels on a high-speed response 6-point LED.
In addition, Yamaha's proprietary interference detection method makes it possible to indicate unwanted radio waves, such as multipath and fading, without saturation even at strong stations, as low indication values or with fringing.
A newly developed loop antenna is used in the AM tuner section.
In addition, AM muting circuit is mounted.
Built-in REC CAL is used as a guide for setting the recording level on a cassette deck, etc.
